Fondaco dei Tedeschi Guided Tours

Historical guided tours: Fondaco dei Tedeschi organizes a guided tour during which participants have the opportunity to discover the history of the grand Renaissance building at the foot of the Rialto Bridge. Over the centuries, it served as the headquarters for important merchants from Northern Europe, housed the central post offices of Venice, but also experienced periods of decline. From the ancient well to the coats of arms of the wealthy bankers of the Fugger family, through the reinforced concrete of the thirties and the numerous engravings visible on the columns and windows, there are many traces that tell the stories of the past, but also of the present, of one of the most important buildings on the Grand Canal.

Architectural guided tours: this guided tour is dedicated to the various architectural interventions that affected Fondaco dei Tedeschi. Starting from the sixteenth-century reconstruction, following the great fire that destroyed the first and oldest medieval Fondaco, the tour focuses on the interventions carried out to transform it in a post office in the twentieth century and on the more recent works by architect Rem Koolhaas and the OMA studio.
