The Maison Caovilla was founded by Edoardo Caovilla in 1934 in Fiesso d’Artico, near Venice, the heartland of the handmade footwear tradition since the Republic of Venice. In the early Sixties, his son René Fernando Caovilla took over the company reins. By combining his father’s meticulous craftsmanship with innovation, he turned Rene Caovilla into an international success with 20 directly-operated stores and 115 multi-brand venues. From sketch to sparkling shoe, the entire production cycle is still carried out in-house. Among the many emblems of modern femininity created by Caovilla is the iconic Cleo sandal, dated 1969, and displayed at the MoMa in NYC in 1975. Excellence remains the byword at Caovilla, constantly elevating the house’s sense of glamour, dreaminess, and red-carpet desirability.
