DFS Staff on Dream Fall Getaways

Wanderlust ahead

With travel almost back to normal in so many parts of the world, it feels safe to dream big again . That’s why, we dared a handful of staff members from DFS to go on and let their fantasies out of the bag and share where they’re hoping to set off to this Fall. We’re getting some ideas too…

TAKE ME TO… SAN FRANCISCO

I’m dreaming of a classic trip to Big Sur with all the bells and whistles. I’d start by flying into San Francisco and hiring a Mustang, because when you’re hitting the Pacific Coast Highway and all those incredible stretches of road surrounding it, you need a car that’s fun to drive. We’d stop for some In-N-Out Burgers on route and make a pit stop at the small beach city of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Then onto the main event, Big Sur, to camp — OK, glamp — under the stars. I’ve heard Ventana Campground does an incredible experience that doesn’t skip on the luxury touches. Along with making s’mores around the fire, we’ll probably kick back with a few G&Ts. So, I’ll need to pick up a bottle of my favorite gin, Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin, on the way through.

TAKE ME TO… VENICE

Yes, Venice is romantic, but it’s also the perfect place for a girls’ trip — a little culture, a little dining, a lot of shopping, and heaps of photogenic spots for wine or ice cream. I’ve heard Gelateria Nico is the city’s best gelato, so that’s on my ‘to-do’ list. As for where to stay, I’d love to try Oltre il Giardino. It’s a quaint 12-room ‘country house’ in the centre of Venice, with a garden filled with olive trees, magnolia, and pomegranate. How divine! I’ll be carrying a larger bag so I can stash a little shopping in there on the daily. I have my eye on the prettiest monogram tote from Tory Burch.

TAKE ME TO… HAWAII

My dream getaway is to go back to Hawaii. I went there years ago and have been fantasizing about it since — I remember feeling the energy of the islands as soon as I got off the plane. Last time I went to Lanai — an incredible little secluded island that’s less-known and postcard-perfect. This time I want to go to Molokai, which I’ve heard is the ultimate spot for camping under the stars. I also want to head back to Waikiki for another surfing lesson. While it’s the ultimate tourist spot in some ways, it’s so iconic — you feel like you’re in a movie. And while we’re on ‘musts’ in Hawaii, I’ll be having many of the island’s favourite cocktail: the Mai Tai. And to complement that taste and spirit, I’ll be packing a travel-sized dark rum eau de parfum from MALIN+GOETZ.

TAKE ME TO… SYDNEY

The city-meets-beach appeal of Sydney is something I’ve always loved, and I can’t wait to go back there. I think I’d get off the plane and go straight for a refreshing (and sometimes freezing!) dip at Bondi Icebergs Club, followed by a seafood feast and some excellent people watching over at North Bondi Fish. Then I’d walk off the calories by strolling the coastline stretch from Bondi to Coogee, and stop into will’s for a cocktail or two. It wouldn’t all be beachside though — I’d also make my way into the city to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It’s the best way to see the Opera House, that’s for sure! It’ll be a pretty active trip, so I think I should get myself a hands-free sling bag, but of course let’s make it a luxury one seeing as I’m going all out…
